And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us...
full of grace and truth. John 1:14
But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work (2 Cor 9:6-8 NKJV).
Faith Promise Giving at Lyerly Church is a big part of how we are able to support 26 missionaries. Each fall, the church family is given the opportunity to pledge an amount to missions. The pledge card is turned in without a signature, because the pledge is between you and God. No one else will know if you pledged or the amount you pledged. You are promising to give a certain amount to missions each month during the next year. You are expressing faith that God will provide the money for your pledge. If you cannot give your pledged amount, again... it's between you and God.
This chart shows the growth of our church's missions giving since we adopted the Faith Promise concept in 2007.
Lyerly Church understands that Christian missions begin at our church door. That's why we support local and global Christian out-reaches. Here's the breakdown of where our missionaries are located:
3 in our county
4 in other counties in NC
3 in other states
3 worldwide
14 in foreign countries
If the giver wishes to designate a certain missionary or ministry, that is written on the envelope when he puts it in the offering plate. The giver can also make an "undesignated" Faith Promise gift, and these funds are divided among the 26 missionaries by the Missions Team.
So, there you have it! Promise a monthly amount for missions in faith that God will see that you have the funds. Read 2 Cor. 9:6-15 to understand the Biblical instructions for giving. Verse 7 gives an important guideline: giving is a private matter. As he purposes in his heart means that each giver will determine what he wants to give. That's why we don't ask you to sign your pledge card. So, you ask, why have a pledge card? Because the Missions Team calculates the total Faith Promise pledges to set its budget for the next year. They then can let missionaries know how much they will receive monthly from Lyerly Church. Missionaries have to have budgets, too!
